Review
Telusu Kada is not a conventional love story, as suggested by its promos. Debut director Neeraja Kona handles a bold and sensitive theme surrogacy without delving into unnecessary medical details, instead focusing on a man caught between two women.
The film’s modern setting targets urban audiences, and the emotional depth portrayed by different characters is one of its strongest points. The hero’s motivations are explained clearly by the end, and the nuances of both Anjali and Raaga’s characters are addressed, providing clarity to the emotional core of the story.
Siddhu Jonnalagadda sheds his DJ Tillu image and delivers a standout performance. His portrayal of Varun is nuanced; at times, he seems slightly negative, but the clarity and drive in his performance make the character believable. Raashii Khanna shines as Anjali, getting a strong role after a long gap and executing it superbly. Srinidhi Shetty is decent but has limited scope.
Viva Harsha plays a key supporting role, acting as the audience’s lens and providing reactions that guide viewers through the narrative. The first half is particularly strong, with the surrogacy angle handled maturely and the emotional tension between the hero, his wife, and his ex-girlfriend portrayed convincingly.
Telusu Kada is crafted for a niche audience and may not resonate with everyone. Neeraja Kona’s debut presents Siddhu in a role different from his recent work.
The film closely mirrors the Hindi movie Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherjee), with the key difference being Srinidhi Shetty’s character is the hero’s ex-girlfriend rather than an outsider. Beyond that, the storyline largely remains similar.
The second half can be confusing, as Varun’s behavior appears inconsistent. While the ending, through Annapoorna’s explanation and Varun’s clarifications, resolves things, some moments—especially related to Siddhu’s character—could have been clearer. The narrative might leave audiences unsure whether Varun is a positive or negative character.
The film’s layered emotions and bold subject matter may be challenging for mass audiences. It requires viewers to approach it with an open mind to fully appreciate the story.
Technical
Thaman’s music and background score are excellent, elevating both songs and emotional sequences. The production values are top-notch, with the set design reflecting a posh, modern aesthetic. The cinematographer creatively presents just a few locations in visually distinct ways.
As Neeraja Kona is also a costume designer, the wardrobe for the cast is stylish without being loud. Her direction is commendable for a debut; she balances the three central characters without taking sides. The writing is solid, with depth in character development, particularly in the second half, though Srinidhi Shetty’s arc could have been clearer for greater impact. The choreography and lyrics are also noteworthy.
Conclusion
Overall, Telusu Kada is a bold, modern take on relationships and urban romance. Its concept is fresh, and the first half impresses with mature storytelling. Strong performances by Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Raashii Khanna, coupled with catchy songs, make it an engaging watch. Despite a few confusing moments in the second half, the film will appeal to audiences who enjoy thoughtful, contemporary romantic dramas.
